JeBari Lewis believes that holding valiant space for someone is one of the most radical acts of altruism that a person can do for another, as it allows someone to unmask however briefly, and be seen by someone other than themselves. It brings him joy to witness the moment when someone feels seen positively, especially in a society that utilizes isolation as currency.

He understands the duality that life’s situations present and how the trite answer to those issues is never to discuss them and continue forging ahead as little has changed, he believes that silence about issues binds us all, and the amount of unhealthy ways it manifests is unparalleled.

As a teacher with five years experience in Orleans Parish, he has been able to help students master concepts that other people have decided it is imperative that they know but he also aids them in understanding a concept that they have been taught to cleave from, which is themselves. JeBari, a native New Orleanian, is a graduate of Landry-WaIker High School and Loyola University New Orleans wants to aid in building a space where people can feel their emotions instead of filing them away and having them burst at the seams when they become too much.

JeBari has served on the inaugural  Harmony Oaks Youth Council, was a member of Knowledge Extension for Youth, and was an intern for W.F.Kellogg’s Future ICONS of NOLA he is also a former fellow for Be Loud, Youth Justice, Brothers Empowered to Teach, Young Men Voices have Power, Teach NOLA, and Black Education for New Orleans Black Is Brillant Institute.
